Our client is a growth business in rapid Scale-up. It has established itself as the leading global provider of its highly specialised products and services, and of accredited certification and training courses for technicians. Customers include an increasingly large number of the world’s biggest commercial enterprises, governments and public sector organisations that are responsible for the delivery and maintenance of reliable and dependable telecoms services and critical communications infrastructure. Our client employs numerous engineers and technical experts in the UK, to work on consultation and implementation projects all over the world. All revenue streams are profitable and expanding fast, backed by systematic innovation and new product development allied to strong relationship-led sales and an actively managed supply chain. This business is still owned and led by its founders, who wish to make this key appointment to secure the long-term future of the company as it grows into a significantly larger entity.

Role

Develop, set and implement strategy
Communicate the company’s purpose and objectives
Ensure clarity of expectations in all interactions
Increase revenue, margins, profitability and share value
Define, monitor, review and exceed KPIs
Optimise resource allocation and capex
Generate, evaluate and exploit opportunities
Deliver improved performance of the business
Drive innovation
Push new product and service development
Lead and inspire the people of the company
Prioritise and ensure the Health & Safety of all
Manage, mentor, coach and develop the senior team
Build and maintain a succession plan for every key role
Set positive tone and be an exemplar of a supportive culture
Instil an expectation of excellence
Actively track trends and keep up with technologies and market developments
Forge and enhance relationships with regulators, professional institutes, and standards bodies
Identify threats and risks to the business and take action to mitigate
Initiate and respond to proposals for JVs, partnerships and collaborations that will benefit the business
Engage with customers and prospects for new business, market intelligence and feedback
Instruct advisers when appropriate to ensure the best outcomes for the business

Candidate

Proven success as an MD, or business leader, with full P&L responsibilities
Led a Start-up / Scale-up through rapid growth
Experience of running a SME, or a specialist unit within a large corporate
Success in sales leadership roles
Familiar with selling to corporate, governmental, defence, security and public sector customers
Knowledge of high-technology, IP-led, innovative products and services ideally in cyber / related
First-class intellect, with relevant academic and professional qualifications
Fully familiar with all business functions including Operations, Sales, Finance, HR and IT
Creative thinker
Commercially astute, with problem-solving instincts
Able to persuade, influence, challenge and negotiate
Deal orientation, with demonstrable track record of closing
Unimpeachable integrity
SC or DV cleared, or prepared to undergo and confident of obtaining security clearance
Able to travel internationally from time to time
