SALARY: The salary range for this position is $96,010.56 to $150,924.68. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.

The New Jersey Judiciary, Office of Attorney Ethics of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, is seeking a managing attorney to supervise Deputy Ethics Counsel in the conduct of investigations and litigation. The selected candidate will also carry a caseload of investigations and disciplinary hearings. As part of these responsibilities, the candidate is required to appear before the Disciplinary Review Board and at oral argument before the Supreme Court of New Jersey.

The selected candidate will also manage matters involving medical circumstances of attorneys which may justify placement on disability-inactive status pursuant to R. 1:20-12 and will manage those matters for which the appointment of an attorney-trustee may be sought under R. 1:20-19.

In addition, the candidate, with the assistance of the Statewide Ethics Coordinator and the First Assistant Ethics Counsel, will have primary responsibility to efficiently manage and track the intake of grievances at the OAE.

REMOTE WORK : The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Example of Duties

Manage and supervise up to six Attorneys and Professional Staff
Conduct complex disciplinary investigations consistent with the time goals provided by R. 1:20-8
Act as a presenter in complex disciplinary proceedings
Appear before the Disciplinary Review Board and Supreme Court
Implement OAE policies, procedures and programs
File petitions and motions pursuant to R. 1:20-12 and R. 1:20-19
Interface with Assignment Judges, Bar Association leaders, medical providers, and members of the general public
Develop training programs for members of the OAE
Present Continuing Legal Education programs to the bar
Develop and implement processes for the efficient tracking and disposition of grievances received by the OAE.
Support of other managers at the direction of the Director
Assist in the training of new employees

Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications

Graduation from an American Bar Association-approved law school and five years of professional administrative and/or program management experience; three of which shall have included practice of law as an attorney.

Candidate must have strong writing, editing, organizational, and communication skills
Experience litigating matters in an adversarial setting strongly preferred.
Proficiency and prior experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Prior experience with Adobe Pro preferred.

License: Attorney-at-Law with a plenary license in the State of New Jersey and having Supreme Court Good Standing Status of Active.

Supplemental Information

Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
