Job Summary
As Director General Capabilities, you’ll be responsible for leading the corporate and professional services functions of the NCA and for the organisation’s strategic planning as a whole. The role has responsibility for ensuring the NCA has effective support capabilities, providing high quality performance data and design and delivery of major transformational change; as well as the development of medium-term strategic plans and reporting on delivery of these plans to the Home Secretary.
The Post Will Have Specific Responsibility For
- Transformation and Programme Delivery - Over the next business planning period significant programmes comprising operational, Digital Data and Technology, Estates Transformation and corporate services strands will deliver significant change in: how we work; our organisational culture; our IT infrastructure and applications; our estates and fleet; and the enabling corporate services required to support our operational activity. These are all essential to fixing our foundations and enabling us to make the step change we need to deal with crime online;
- People Strategy - Our officers are at the heart of what we do and central to our mission, we are proud to protect. You will lead the people function that is responsible for over nearly 6000 people;
- Finance - with responsibility for managing the agency’s £665.6 million resource budget plus a £118.2 million annual capital budget plus in excess of £230 million from external funding (Resource and Capital combined);
- Legal – Supporting our legal team in advising on using the law to drive disruptions, enable operations and defend the Agency.

- Participate in a staff engagement panel with a selection of people from across the National Crime Agency
- Undergo an Individual Leadership Assessment (ILA)
- Meet with Graeme Biggar for an informal conversation about the role
- Inputs from all of those steps will then form the basis of a panel interview, chaired by Paul Kernaghan from the Civil Service Commission on 14 March 2025
