Managing Director - Health
Location: Hybrid – c 2 days/wk on site at the Ipswich hub with occasional additional travel to business sites across the UK.
Position Overview:
Handl Group is a dynamic and fast growing “buy and build” Investor which provides the funding and highly innovative strategic support to enable their autonomous portfolio companies to achieve outstanding profitable growth.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join handl Health and Wellbeing as the Managing Director for the Health Business Unit, centred in Ipswich with service operations across the UK.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of delivering successful growth of Health & Wellbeing services, developing an expanding range of trusted key senior relationships, including with Private Medical Insurer (PMI), Corporate Occupational Health (OH) and wider treatment service providers.
In this pivotal role, you will oversee the strategic direction, growth, and operational efficiency of the division, which includes diverse services such as Musculoskeletal (MSK) care, Physiotherapy, Mental Health, and Wellbeing services. You will play a key role in driving long-term business strategies, enhancing operational performance, and ensuring that all activities align with the division’s overarching goals.
You will lead cross-functional teams, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of innovation and high performance. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, Health and Wellbeing, key responsibilities will include:
Strategic Leadership & Business Integration:
- Design and implement comprehensive business strategies that align with corporate objectives and ensure operational integration.
- Articulate and embed the company’s vision, mission, and values to drive cohesive growth.
- Provide market insights and strategic guidance to the Health and Wellbeing Board to inform key decisions.
- Oversee risk management and compliance activities, ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory, and governance standards.
- Lead business transformation efforts to improve profitability and sustainability.
Organisational Leadership & Talent Development:
- Collaborate with HR to attract, develop, and retain high-calibre talent.
- Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Implement succession planning and talent management initiatives to ensure business continuity.
- Monitor colleague performance and ensure development programs are in place to support career progression.
Sales, Marketing & Client Relationship Management:
- Partner with the Divisional Commercial Director to integrate commercial strategies and identify growth opportunities.
- Ensure excellent service delivery, client satisfaction, and business growth & retention.
Financial Management & Operational Excellence:
- Oversee financial performance, including forecasting, budgeting, and cost optimisation.
- Drive operational efficiencies and cost-saving initiatives to meet revenue targets and maximise profitability.
- Use data-driven insights to assess business performance and guide strategic decision-making.
Governance, Risk & Compliance:
- Ensure regulatory compliance across business operations, including health & safety, professional accreditations, and ESG requirements.
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to support the business’s long-term success.
Candidate Profile:
- Proven successful Leadership experience within the Health & Wellbeing sector; experience of delivering services into PMI & OH plus knowledge of wider clinical treatment markets would also be a distinct advantage.
- Educated to Degree level, you will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to drive significant growth & “change” with experience of managing cross-functional teams in a multi-faceted environment.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and present to senior leadership.
- Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to influence at all organisational levels.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience in budgeting, forecasting and cost optimisation.
- Advanced IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and business intelligence tools.
- Overall, to be able to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving business environment and deliver exceptional sustainable business growth.
NB Whilst this is a hybrid role, candidates will need to be located within the East Anglia/South East/East Midlands region to be able to commute on a regular c 2 days/wk basis to be on site at the Health Division’s main central hub in Ipswich.
Salary Package: Highly competitive Executive starting salary level up to £140k plus comprehensive Benefits package (including Car & strong Bonus scheme) to attract a high calibre, high performing professional.
